Exhaustion is the enemy of all success
When your business is organized you have more time to focus on what matters most to you. You can have coffee with a potential client, you can create a new product or service, you can take a vacation. If you get stuck in the wheel of your administration, then your spending most of your time trying to run your business. Doing administration can be exhausting and often it sucks the energy right out of you, the excitement about being a business owner dwindles. You may feel like you are wasting your time doing administration, but the fact is, it must get done. Therefore systemizing your business is SO IMPORTANT!
Now, where do you start? Here are a few baby steps you can take to create systems and structure in your business:
Put it on paper
You already have some form of system in your business. You have clients, right? Your providing them with a product or service, right? The process you currently use just needs to be fine tuned. The first step to doing this is to write it down. It’s likely that it is already in your head. You do it daily as a routine. Putting your process on paper will allow you to review it, restructure it and ultimately put it into a system that works for your business.
Structure is key
Structure is defined as “to construct or arrange according to a plan; give a pattern or organization to”. Why structure is key is simple. If you create a system, you will be productive and if you are productive, you will be profitable. So, if creating structure means you systemize each responsibility within your business, you will better understand the tasks that are consuming most of your time. You can then choose to delegate those tasks or create a system to get them done in a timely matter.
Now get more clients
Once you create a system to manage your time, you can focus on building relationships. When you have happy clients, you get more business. When you have uninterrupted time to spend working on your business rather than in it, you have the freedom to build relationships. You can start by creating a system on how you will connect with your current clients. Perhaps you take an hour a week to meet over coffee or you schedule an hour a day to call 5 clients to see how they are enjoying your product or service. You may also use this time to gain new clients. Join and commit to a new networking group, spend and hour or two a day focused on your marketing. However, you choose to spend this time make sure to systemize it so that you are getting the most out of your time.
