Yesterday I brought my 10 year old daughter into my business! I had her create content and find supportive stock images for some of the marketing I manage. I showed her how I do it and why!
It got me thinking, what a great opportunity for me to SHOW my kids what I do, while teaching them HOW I do it!
Here is a great way to keep your kids busy, while teaching them about Entrepreneurship and keeping the education rolling at home!
Let’s play store!!!!!
Here is what you need:
A few items (stuffed animals, food items, electronics)
Play money ($1, $5 and $10 work best)
Cash register (if you have one)
Ask your child what they’d like to sell and for how much. Label your items with the price (sticky notes work best), and then line your items for sale on a table.
Explain to your child that as a store owner, they must first buy their items from a factory, explain what the item cost to buy and then have them do the math between what it cost them and how much they will sell it for. * watch how it’s made, a great educational tool for production (explain what’s the workers do and things like the distribution process)
Talk with your kids about who would buy their product (ideal client) and why (value proposition). Get them thinking of creative ways to sell them.
Have them create flyers, videos and promotions using keywords and interesting slogans. Have them do their pitch to family and friends (via Skype or FaceTime if in isolation)
This is a great way to open the conversation about how we earn our money and might even get your creative juices flowing as well. It also helps explain more about our current situation and how our economy works.
Let’s make the best of our situation and take advantage of the opportunities we’ve been given to teach our children 🙂
